Happy Halloween

Wizard of Oz themed costumes.

 "We're off!...I mean we're off to see the Wizard!"

 Who made the better lion? I couldn't convince any of them to be the tin man.

And no Dorthy costume would ever be complete without THE SHOES! Thanks to red glitter glue and some $5 dollar orange shoes that were in the clearance section, my sparkling red shoes found their way home...right on my feet!

Witch Cupcakes

This year for our Church Trunk or Treat we decided to go with a Wizard of Oz theme for our costumes, and trunk. So of course we needed our treats to match as well. I had seen some witch hats on pintrest that I loved originally posted on the Betty Crocker web page.

So what better Wizard of Oz character could I go with than a melting Wicked Witch!!

I came up with 2 different versions. Which one do you like best?

Version 1

I used Oreo cookies for the cookie since these are Cookies and Cream cupcakes. I say why make food that looks good if it's not going to taste good too!

Tutorial:

What you'll need:

• your favorite chocolate cupcakes
• frosting for decorating
• green and black food coloring
• Hershey kisses
• Oreo cookies with cream filling removed
• red mini M&M's
  
  

What to do:

1)After baking your cupcakes cut out the center to fill. Put cupcake cores in a bowl and set it aside.

2)Now fill your cupcakes with your favorite filling. I used the whipped cookies and cream frosting.

3) Use your cupcake cores to make cake balls for your witch heads. Crumble to cake cores with some frosting, shape into balls, place on a plate or cookie sheet, and refrigerate for about an hour.

4)For cupcake version 1 now use a knife to frost your cupcakes.

or

For cupcake version 2 take some green frosting and make some squiggles on the top of your cupcakes. This is the already meted parts of your witches so it doesn't have to be perfect.

5) Now it's time to make your hats. Use frosting to glue a Hershey kiss onto the unwritten side of an Oreo cookie. Add a band with colored frosting if you'd like.

6)If your cake balls are firm enough you can now place them on the center of your cupcakes.

7)Frost your cake balls green. Pipe on some black eyes and hair and a green crooked nose.

8)Use a red mini M&M for the mouth and place on he hat.

And there you have it a melting wicked witch! I think it might be fun to do a hybrid of the two versions.

Pacman Ghost Bunting

I love decorating for the holidays and Halloween is no exception. However, I'm not into all the spooky scary stuff (I watch Scooby Doo movies, Monster House, and Igor to get into the Halloween spirit). I like cute monsters that would be your friend instead of keeping me afraid of the dark. So I decided to take some inspiration for my ghostly friends from an old school arcade favorites; Pacman ghosts! When my parents first met it was while working at McDonalds and during their breaks they would play Pacman against each other! Therefore these little guys hold a special little place in my heart. Plus since felt is so inexpensive and the ribbon I used was just some left over material from a previous project, this cute little bunting cost me only about $2 to make! On to the tutorial.

Supplies:

• Some black and white felt
• ghost template (below)
• glue
• needle
• black and white thread
• permanent marker
• white color pencil
• Ribbon

Here is the template that I used for my ghosts, click on the image and print it out or just put your paper to the computer and trace. Each ghost require two of each image.

Cut out your template and trace your pieces out on the felt. Since my bunting has 7 ghosts (4 white and 3 black). I traced 8 white ghosts, 6 black ghosts, 14 big white ovals, and 14 small black ovals.

Cut out your felt pieces. Now you're ready to put your little ghosts together.

Hand sew the little black ovals onto the white ovals for eyes. Glue your eyes onto 4 white ghosts and 3 black ghosts. Put them on the side to dry.

Now with the left over ghosts, place and sew them onto your bunting ribbon like so...

Your glue should be about dry now. To make sure the eyes stay on I like to do a quick stitch over the pupils of the eyes.

Now just use your sewing machine to sew the eyed ghost onto the ghosts that have already been sewn to the bunting ribbon. And there you have it! Some Pacman Ghost Bunting!

You could also use the same template to make cute little ghostly door hangers!
